The reason you use boiling water is that water boils at 212F, and even off boil for a few minutes will stay in the 185F-190F range. If your gauge reads 120F to 140F after being dropped into boiling or just removed from boiling water, then the sender or gauge is bad.

Sanding. Sand all frames with 220 grid so that surfaces are smooth and the stretcher/stile joints are flush. I use a random-orbit sander for the bigger surfaces and a sanding block for the smaller ones. Ease over the sharp edges with a few passes of sandpaper.

A little putty and sanding was required to finish the shape. A friend has a great vacuum forming machine and in a jiffy I had ten (other projects to) triple 5.9 turrets. First, you should sand the end-grain to one or two grits higher than the rest of the piece. So if the piece is sanded to 180, you should sand the endgrain to 220 or 320.
